When this connection is severed, research into the present state of American education clearly tells us, the gaps which develop are deadly. The information that Americans must share in order to form a recognizable culture, information that we rightly expect schools to provide, is no longer provided by schools. The implications of the deadly consequences of this situation is a matter of concern not only for the prevailing society and the preservation of its values, but especially for those of us who strive to preserve and transmit an Orthodox spiritual life within an increasingly hostile secular culture.”
